Shit just got real

October 21, 2009 at 11:13 pm (Musical)

1) Just had our First ‘full’ practise (i.e drums, proper amps etc) since the late Spring. We knew all the songs well enough which was a plus, but the set is still quite short. We’re ditching a couple that were too epic and intense for us really. They were beasts of songs and I’m dead proud of them, but didn’t really suit a band who plays the ‘Tom Hark’ theme tune in between songs and has banter described as ‘Faustino Asprilla in his prime’ (i.e part genius part cringeworthy).

But we laid the foundations for a solid new one which was a perfect balance of the direction we wanted to head in. Still, I’m at Fest, Phil’s in Australia…Ash is somewhere. We won’t be able to fit many rehearsals in! This’ll be interesting…

2) It’s Ruiner, y’know that incredible band from Baltimore, USA. We are SO lucky to be in on this.

3) Our Logo!! We didn’t design it, but I want to keep it forever and ever and ever.

Though it did make me think more pop singers should dress like Cammy. M Bison was probably the lamest Street Fighter character.

Long live, the HOODED WIFE BEATER VEST

Please forgive the Blue Steel. But hey, Daniel Craig is literally blue steel 24/7.

Possibly the most ridiculous, but AWESOME purchase.

raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh

So good. Numerous lolz have been had at this. I actually have loved it for ages but never knew the right moment to add it here. I can’t decide if it’s funnier than the Bracewar one though which is a bit longer and has a funny expression on one of them.

Integrity are the better band however.

We jammed at Phil’s and got 2 new songs sorta laid out. Simpler than before, which I think is good. Still heavy and aggressive, but hopefully will allow Ash to express himself a bit more vocally and get more singalongs. It was awesome trying to bust out the doomier and experimental stuff but at the same time I didn’t join a band to show off my guitar skillz, simple singalongs are generally more fun to listen to.

Phil was looking after Amy’s cat as well who is a mentalist, hence deciding to post the video now.

The funniest video of all time..?

October 11, 2009 at 2:52 pm (Uncategorized)

So what would you get if Slipknot appeared in The Lion King, or another Disney film?

Something as hysterical as this

Urgh, been in bed all day. Two pretty heavy nights in a row has taken it out of me. I’d stopped getting totally battered for a while and enjoyed it, but turned to the bottle a bit this week. Maybe I should concentrate more on horrifically LOLZ youtube videos.

Blah

October 9, 2009 at 8:45 am (Musings on life)

Met the old man for a pint yesterday and felt bad as I wasn’t really in the mood – I just wanted to hit the gym and let out my frustrations rather than get shitfaced with him. That’s always fun, I like the fact that I hang out with my dad often as a mate rather than as a parent. I guess that happens to most guys when they hit 20s and get proper jobs and that. As a teenager the idea of getting drunk with my dad filled me with dread but it’s really not the case anymore.

But we got talking about living and that and for some reason he mentioned the Highbury Square Flats, on the old Arsenal stadium. Fuck me, look at them. That would be the dream.

He mentioned the idea of getting a 2 bed flat which I could live in and he could stay in the spare room when working in London, rather than commuting every day or staying in a hotel. That would suit me – I mean most of the time it’d feel more of a batchelor pad and less like living at home cos he’d only stay when he needed to. But at the same time, having his company would be pretty damn rad too. But obviously, this is something we could never afford and a silly pipe dream.

Sorta made me a bit more annoyed. Bah. Not that I have a problem with my current house, but LOOK AT THE FUCKING AWESOMENESS OF THEM!

Here’s to a boozy weekend ahead!

Perfection

October 7, 2009 at 9:26 am (Uncategorized)

Too many Jimmy Eat World videos on youtube are ruined by people singing along. Especially ‘Hear You Me’ and ‘Kill’.

But it’s okay. This is still in my top 5.

more than just a song…

October 7, 2009 at 9:12 am (Musical)

I’m really getting quite excited about the band getting back together now, particularly with the mindset of ‘let’s not worry about being massively good, let’s just write fun, positive songs we can play well’. It also got me thinking about bands a bit like that, hardcore bands that are more about the fun and good times.

These musings reminded me of how AWESOME Stretch Arm Strong were. What a great band, I miss them. They’re a bit cheesy at times, and have released some pretty bad albums (‘Engage’) but they still mean a fair bit to me. I also like the fact that when not in the band they’re just regular schoolteachers and not trying to be ‘rock stars’.

If you can get one album, I’d say get ‘A Revolution Transmission’, which features the song below. ‘The Rituals of Life’ is also a classic, particularly as it has one of my favourite songs of all time on it (‘For Now’). GOOD TIMES

Epic High Five

October 5, 2009 at 9:52 pm (Musings on life)

My blog has been a little too self indulgent of late which must be incredibly boring unless a) you’re me or b) you’re a friend who is very nosey. I sort of want to keep this personal but at the same time would like to try and find fun/amusing things to post on here so that it’s not just an account of my day to day life. THIS POST WILL CHANGE THAT.

But, whilst we’re here….had a bit of a mixed week, Basshunter aside. Work shit and that, and just feeling tired. It got better towards the end of the week and it was concluded by an exceptional weekend. Facedown was good for the first time ever, and visiting the Leeds nonces was incredible. Mills, remind yourself to visit Leeds far more often. I always have fun when I do visit and then I find myself not coming back for Months. It’s a bit of a drive but the banter and general good times is worth it all.

So this negi and posi week really helps reinforce the point of this blog… I’m making it a mission to try and find an awesome high five picture every few days, seeing as high fives are brilliant. If I’m feeling good, it’s to help celebrate the good times. If I’m feeling shit, hopefully finding one awesome enough will help swing my mood.

Not many of these are particularly original but are my favourite so far. The one immediately below will never be beaten however. It was an exceptional random day in which I brought a Pink Pashmina among other things.

Best o’ the rest…

I might have to change it to other things, but based around positive stuff.

And yes, most of it is from the Dillinger Escape Plan thread on PT. Suck it up.
